| Turnarounds are complex events often resulting in highly variable outcomes. As with key performance indicators (KPIs), AP-Networks has empirically isolated and quantified the leading indicators for turnaround outcomes by using its turnaround database of more than 540 recent - since 2005 - turnarounds from the refining and chemical industry. It is the largest turnaround database of its kind. The database has more than 800 total observations, the majority of which were gathered through face-to-face on-site turnaround readiness engagements. AP-Networks has been conducting these engagements since 2002 and has become the preeminent company in measuring turnaround readiness and quantifying practices and outcomes, as well as developing and implementing turnaround best practices.
The Turnaround Benchmarking Study enables the comparison of turnaround estimated and actual cost, scope, duration, labor hours and other outcome metrics to similar like-for-like (operating unit-basis) turnarounds from industry. The comparison will show position of each of your turnarounds relative to Industry Average and to the Best performance. As importantly, the Study enables the comparison of your turnaround practices to the Industry Average and to the Best Practices. Best practices are derived from empirical data through the examination of what drives Best outcomes while statistically controlling for turnaround characteristics. The appropriate and detailed study and quantification of practices is key to improvement - without it measurement is merely a scorecard.
